Perry is a cherished local
artist with his great deal of work focusing on the beauty
of Whidbey Island. His subjects capture the essence of
Whidbey and are especially meaningful to island
insiders.
The "Mason Dixon
Line" above shows a local Whidbey Tel phone booth...
there are several along Hwy 525, as well as the primary
back roads. They are a symbol of community support that is
as near as a phone call. The actual booth above, stands at
the half-way point between north and south Whidbey... a
regular islander's benchmark on their travels north and
south.
Perry was born and raised
in Puget Sound and currently resides in the Oak Harbor
area. He received a Bachelor's Degree in fine arts
from Washington State University. Perry has shown his work
across the United States and is included in numerous
collections.
Woodfin has received awards
for his work including Best of Show Awards at Washington
State University and the Alumni Award from the Art
Institute of Chicago.
Watercolor
Watercolor is an
unforgiving medium and very demanding. Successive
color washes are used to "stain" the paper and
in this way a desired color is built up. However, each
color wash will show through the following wash. If
a mistake occurs, it cannot be covered up as in an oil
painting. Similarly white is achieved by painting
around the desired white area and having the white of the
paper act as the white color. The paint is therefore
applied from light to dark colors.
